The Dream Voyagers [Game Download]

The Dream Voyagers [Game Download] Review

It's short--which I rarely notice so this must be pretty short. However, there are extras and ways to make it longer. I loved this game--in the beginning, every portal is new to you, and while the items aren't all that hard to find, the locations are well-drawn and, since they are in dreams, wonderfully fantastical. After a while you will find yourself returning to the same portals, which can be avoided by playing in bonus mode, which will give you a way to pre-view the portals and avoid the ones you are getting tired of. Bonus mode takes you to the portal of your choice (use the one you know the best, and work your way through those you are familiar with) and you are given 3 hints and a relatively short time to figure out what the hints are talking about, and then find that item. This is where it helps if you are familiar with the items in that portal. That's the only kind of mini-game. You can play timed or relaxed. This may be too short and simplistic for those looking for a real challenge, but if you just want some relaxing game play with some vivid and interesting locations, give this a try!

Saitek Three Lever Pro Throttle Quadrant (PZ45)

Saitek Three Lever Pro Throttle Quadrant (PZ45) Review

This throttle quadrant is great. Works beautifully and adds another touch of realism to flight simming.
As for those people who have calibration issues, it just takes a little tweaking.
Initially, I had the same problem with the throttle and propellor levers but I figured it out.
As I moved the aforementioned all the way up and down, they would only register from about 21% to 79%, so I could not get the full range.

First, go to the Saitek website and download the latest drivers.
Second, in FSX, assign the throttle, propellor and mixture to the appropriate levers.
Third, in FSX, Controls, Calibration, set the Sensitivity for all three levers all the way to the right and set the Null Zone for all three levers all the way to the left.
That's it. Try it now and it should work perfectly.
Enjoy!

Saitek Three Lever Pro Throttle Quadrant (PZ45) Feature

  • 3 axis levers add even more options for control in your favorite flight simulation
  • 3 two-way rocker switches add further controls to your simulation setup
  • Quadrant can be mounted either on top or in front of your desk, pilot or co-pilot side so that the controls are always where you want them
  • Additional quadrant lever heads let you create your preferred configuration of throttle, flaps, mixture and prop pitch
  • Works with: Windows XP, XP64 and Vista (all versions) and Windows 7

Naval Combat Pack

Naval Combat Pack Review

Nuclear submarine sims are not thick on the ground, to say the least. So it's thankful that we a comprehensive and above all realistic simulation of the Los Angeles nuclear attack submarine have Jan'e 688(I) Hunter Killer. (Incidentally that's nuclear as in nuclear powered, not nuclear armed) However be aware that this is not a simulation that you can just pick up and play. Even if you played earlier, simpler, nuclear sub sims such as Red Storm Rising you may not be prepared for the detail the sim goes into. As the developers actually design simulators for the US Navy you can be assured that this is heavyweight simulation. I should say too that some concepts would be impossible to deduce without reading the manual (such as the Demon waterfall) However the sim is quite easy to get into thanks to well designed tutorials.

Some of the stations covered in the sim are;

-Control room, with depth and speed gauges etc.
_Radar room. Used to find surface contacts naturally.
-ESM and Radio. ESM passively listens for a vessels radar emissions and the radio will recieve messages from your superiors.
-Sonar control. Undoubtedly the heart of the sim. There are stations for Active sonar, broadband passive sonar (which is what you would use most of the time to listen for contacts) narrowband passive, which is used to identify contacts by class, and the oddly titled Demon waterfall,(Demon standing for demodulated noise)
-Periscope. If you think modern submarine warfare is about tracking ships through a periscope and yelling "Fire Torpedoes 2 and 3!" then you'll be disappointed. The periscope is largely redundant in modern submarine warfare, and getting close enough to an enemy vessel to be able to see it through the periscope is almost suicidally foolhardy.
-Weapons control- Where you can set weapon parameters and launch countermeasures
-The TMA or Target Motion Analysis. This is where a targets speed, course, and range can be deduced but accuracy can only be obtained through lengthy sonar readings.
Sea conditions- Determines where the all important thermal layer may be
Map- Used for navigating naturally
Reference- Need to know the capablities of an enemy vessel? Then here's where to look.

The simulation is very comprehensive and holds up to repeated play. However it is what I might think of as a "slow burner" as the pace is frequently slow. But often that's no bad thing. It allows tension to grow as the encounter proceeds. Has he detected you? Should you risk increasing speed? Should you take evasive action if a torpedo has been launched at you or sit tight and hope it passes by? There are plenty of tough choices to be made in every encounter.

There are a few flaws. Graphically it's nothing special. There is a 3D mode , but it's software only and all vessels are unrealistcally grey with red keels. Most of the time though you'll be staring at CRT displays so it's no big loss that the 3D is poor.
There is also no sea ice modelled in the game and as usually you're pitted against Russian vessels this omission is somewhat odd.

Of the other two games. Sub Command is largely an improved version of 688(I) made by the same developers and featuring almsot identical stations. This sim includes sea ice an also lets you command the Russian sub the Akula.
Fleet Command unfortunately is the dud of this trio. Supposedly simulating modern carrier warfare gameplay is too remiscent of early 1980s arcade games. There are some nice visual touches but it's unsatisfying as a strategy game.

Naval Combat Pack Feature

  • 688(I) Hunter/Killer is the most realistic submarine simulation ever developed for PC. Master the sonar and weapons control systems, learn to develop real target situations and outfit your boat with the latest advanced weaponry. Then use your skills to complete the tour of duty and earn your dolphins to become a true submariner.
  • In Fleet Command, international waterways become theaters of war. The world's most formidable maritime powers exchange their fatal blows -- and entire fleets are at your command. Strategically deploy vessels from every class - frigate to aircraft to nuclear submarine - to maintain the precarious balance of naval power and gain position for the deadly endgame.
  • Sub Command puts you in charge of the most deadly modern-day submarines in the world. Play three distinct submarines across two unique and challenging campaigns. Utilize cutting-edge sensor and weapon technology to locate, track and destroy the enemy - even deliver Tomahawk missiles to inland targets. Whether transiting, diving, or surfacing you control the smartest, stealthiest and most feared subs on the water today!
  • Includes A Century of Silent Service - a DVD packed with over 90 minutes of interviews, authentic historical submarine footage, and numerous bonus features.

Naval Combat Pack Overview

With the Naval Combat 3-Pack, you'll feel like a decorated Navy veteran. These three games recreate the feel of being in naval warfare, for a realistic and intense maritime simulation.

Nancy Drew: Danger on Deception Island

Nancy Drew: Danger on Deception Island Review

From canoeing to playing games in a whale-watching headquarters, this well-thought out game had it all.

I have played most of the games in the series and was very pleased with this one. It was on my Christmas list and the first one I played, partly because of the intriguing-looking cover. I'm now very glad I chose this one as my first to play, because I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm going to divide this review into sections and rate each particular area how many stars I think it deserves.

Setting/Graphics- Okay, the graphics were incredible!! The characters looked genuine, and the beaches were pretty. The water looked amazing: it was just so REAL-looking!! I loved the graphics!! Unfortunately, the setting disappointed me just a little bit because it was dark, gloomy, and foggy on Snake Horse Harbor. I prefer the bright, sunny games to the dark, gloomy ones, but that is okay. It didn't ruin the game, and I suppose that it looked realistic, though depressing. That is the only reason I'm giving the setting/graphics a measly 4 stars.

Plot- You don't really know there is one until you start the game. But just moments after you begin, you see that the boat you're staying on has been vandalized!! You learn later in the game that the boat is not the first place to be vandalized or stolen from recently. But why? Your goal is to find out why all these strange accidents are happening, and by who. Nice plot that is a little different from other ND games, I'll rate 5 stars easily.

Characters- There are the typical ND amount of characters in this game, plus the usual Bess and George, Frank and Joe Hardy and such. I'll separate the characters and briefly describe each one.
Katie Firestone is the young lady whose boat you are staying on. She is really into sea life, but spends most of her time in this game fixing her engine that the culprit tore apart. Katie is not well-liked in the harbor, and often doesn't see eye-to-eye with the other characters, but accepts that fact pretty well This character is a good asset to Deception Island.
Jenna Deblin runs the Hot Kettle Cafe and has for two years. She is kind, and you can eat her delicious clam chowder and blueberry muffins if you're bored. Jenna is a sort of average person, and nothing about her really stands out that much. But that does not at ALL whatsoever make her a bad character; she's probably my favorite.
Holt Scotto spends his day usually at the Hot Kettle drinking coffee. He's running for harbormaster, and the time he spends not in the cafe he usually spends at campaign meetings, but that's funny because he isn't exactly what you'd call a politician. Katie despises him, and the feeling is pretty mutual. Holt's a little amusing at times, especially when he flips out if you try to get into the lighthouse when he's watching you. A good, solid character.
Andy Jason runs a whale-watching business just like Katie. But his is all decked out, and is at a special place called Whale World. You can play games in her center, and he is the friendliest of all the characters to Nancy, though I find him slightly obnoxious and WAYYYYYY too enthusiastic about what he does. Even so, he fits well into the game.
A character you can never meet face-to-face but is a HUGE and crucial part of the game is an older lady named Hilda Swenson. She went "crazy" after her husband died, and moved to land across from Snake Horse Harbor without taking any possessions along with her so she could escape all the people of the harbor, whom she grew bored of. Hilda has a lively personality and is very active, and a request she makes to Nancy is a major part of the case.
I have nothing to complain about the characters, they are all very different and have different stories to tell. Great characters!! I'll give them 5 stars.

Transportation- There are two methods of transportation in this game: bike and canoe. By bike you can go to 4 places: Katie's boat, the Hot Kettle Cafe, Whale World, and the Lighthouse. If you're traveling by canoe, you can get lost and go anywhere you want, but sophisticated places to go are the beach, the sea caves, and a few places in the water that Hilda assigns you where to go. Unlike some ND games, there are plenty different atmospheres and places to go. All the transportation stuff I'll present with 5 stars.

Puzzles- Great!! The puzzles were fun and didn't usually require cheats, but not so easy that they took you five minutes to figure out. There weren't really any "big" puzzles, and you wouldn't know right off the bat that it was a puzzle, but you can't really qualify them as anything else. They were fun to solve and as usual about half the game. The puzzles were brilliant, so I'll easily give them 5 stars.

Ending- I was very, very, very pleased with the ending of this game!! It all happened so well and fit together perfectly. I won't give you too many details, but I'll say that this ending is one of the best ones!! There was a bit of a twist and it made playing this game all worth it. Unlike some of the ND games, this ending was brilliant. It didn't leave you feeling cheated, and it fit well as a part of the game. I'll give it 5stars before you can say "Alacadabra!!"

Extras- This game, along with most Nancy Drew games, had various things you could do other than solving the case. You could go to Whale World's centers and play 4 different mini-games. Also, you could visit the Hot Kettle Cafe and eat lots of clam chowder and muffins. Lastly, you could go to the beach and build sandcatles or tickle a goldfish. The extras came in fun bundles, and I'm glad they were there. They deserve 5 stars. They were great to play when you got bored of or stuck in the mystery. Though I didn't find myself get bored, they were fun do anyway.

Overall- Altogether, this game was FAB!! It was SO much fun to play the first time, and the second, and the third, and on and on and on. You will not be disappointed if you purchase Danger on Deception Island.

And, for the final tally-

Setting/Graphics- 4 stars
Plot- 5 stars
Characters- 5 stars
Transportation- 5 stars
Puzzles- 5 stars
Ending- 5 stars
Extras- 5 stars

Add those up: 34, and divide by 7, and round to a total of: 4.9 stars!! Yay!!

Thanks so much for taking the time to read my review!! I really hope it helped!!

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction Review

Let's get it over with. Yes, this game has DRM. Yes, it requires an internet connection to activate. No, I have not tried playing the game without the internet on because my internet is always on. I have a whole collection of installed games on my old PC that I can't play because I need to have either 1) the DVD in the drive or 2) a key printed on a manual. In some cases I have the DVD but not the manual, and in others I don't have the DVD. Either way I can't play them. With this DRM, once I enter the key after installing the game, I no longer need to keep the DVD or the manual. If I should lose it next time I move (which usually happens), it won't keep me from playing this totally awesome wickedly sick game. Additionally, if I get a new laptop or desktop, I can install the game again on that, with no limits. Yes, if you are online, you need to access the server to save and load your games. No I have NEVER had a single problem getting onto a server or losing my connection to a server. So to recap: yes it has DRM, no it is not a big deal. Honestly, I understand if you travel or are military deployed or are in a very remote area or some third world country, you might not have access to always-on high speed broadband. But those are generally exceptions to the rule. Most of us play from our houses, work, hotel, whatever, and have access to high speed broadband. And I don't know how broadband works for most of you, but mine is always on. So what's the big deal? UBI has made a fine game and its DRM in no way prevents me from playing the game.

Ok, now that we got that settled, this game rocks! If you are a fan of the series, or even if you aren't but you are into stealth/action/adventure games, this is the game for you. It's nice to let Sam take off the gloves for a change. Not that I minded having to rely so much on stealth in previous games, it's actually what really differentiates this series from so many other series and why I like it. But there's something ever so satisfying about getting your hands dirty, especially when you do it with Sam's brutal efficiency. Get this game. You won't regret it.

    Story
A few years have passed since the cliff hanger conclusion of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent, in which Agent Sam Fisher undertook a particularly dirty mission, full of questionable actions, in the shadow of the inexplicable and unmourned death of his daughter. Fisher is now a renegade operative digging into the events of the past and he doesn't like what he has found. His personal investigation into his daughter's death reveals that he's been betrayed by his former agency, the Third Echelon. The agency responds by pursuing him, but as he works to elude them he becomes aware of a deadly terrorist plot that threatens millions. He is uniquely positioned and prepared to act against this, but success is doubtful without the help of former friends from the Third Echelon team, resulting in a series of life and death situations for himself and the country where trust can by no means be assumed.

    Gameplay
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction, as with all games in the Splinter Cell series, is a tactical stealth-action game. In single player modes players take on the role of Sam Fisher and engage in a series of missions utilizing high-tech weaponry, gadgets, lethal hand-to-hand combat and interrogation skills. Overall objectives and the necessary steps to achieve them are challenging, yet always clear via dual verbal and visual expression that seamlessly alerts players as they progress through missions. In addition, Conviction enhances the world of stealth combat that has made the Splinter Cell franchise a runaway hit for years through a series of revolutionary new gameplay features. These include:

    • Mark and Execute - A gameplay mechanism for eliminating several enemies at once, Mark and Execute allows players to "Mark" multiple enemies, or points in the surrounding environment for termination in batches. Once this is done, a close-combat kill is required, after which the player can activate the "Execute" portion of the mechanism to dispose of all enemies in a cinematic manner. A limited amount of Mark functionality is attached to players' weapons, so this ability must be used wisely.
    • Last Known Position - Last Known Position is a visual representation of where the game's AI assumes you are, based on where you were last sighted. This provides players with a wide array of options, including setting traps for enemies, flanking maneuvers or simply disappearing while you are thought to be elsewhere.
    • Experience System - Successful completion of objectives via the Persistent Elite Creation System earns players rewards in the form of experience points. These can be used to upgrade weapons and gadgets that will allow for cleaner, quieter and more deadly attacks.
    Co-op Story Mode
Prologue, the co-op story mode included in Splinter Cell: Conviction is available either in split-screen local play or via Xbox LIVE. Prologue offers an exclusive prequel campaign to that found in single player mode and features new characters and settings, three difficulty settings, three sub game modes and four maps. Designed to stand apart from, as well as supplement the single player campaign, gameplay mechanics available within it include shareable Mark and Execute target points and Last Known Position, as well as teammate revival functionality via a portable defibrillator, the ability to work with a teammate to eliminate enemies who have captured you, and more.

    Key Game Features

    • A New Level of Splinter Cell Action - A full arsenal of cutting-edge innovations allow you to outflank foes with the Last Known Position system, tag and eliminate enemies using the Mark and Execute feature, and much more.
    • Blockbuster Experience - A unique storytelling style keeps you on the edge of your seat as you navigate the explosive world of a renegade agent where trust is impossible and justice requires you to go above the law.
    • Jaw Dropping Visuals - A revolutionary new graphic direction delivers an utterly seamless gameplay experience that’ll keep you totally engrossed in the story of Sam Fisher.
    • Explosive Xbox LIVE Play - Addictive multiplayer modes, content downloads, messaging and voice support and more amp up the dramatic intensity like never before.

  • Lords of the Realm: Royal Collection

Lords of the Realm: Royal Collection Review

Lords of the Realm 2 was the first strategy game I played. A friend brought it over in 7th grade, and in the past 7 years it's been the one game I've gone back to repeatedly. I have yet to grow tired of this game.

First, I love the game's soundtrack. I've actually put all the music WAV files in a playlist...and while I'm on the subject of the audio, if you haven't listened to setup2.wav, DO IT!

As for gameplay, it isn't exactly the most complicated of strategy games, but I think that's part of what makes it fun. If you're going to create an army, wait for one of the merchants to come through so you can buy ale. It's much easier to feed people on grain than cows, and it doesn't hurt happiness. The Knight is a spoiled brat. It is music to my ears to hear "The county is yours, my lord..." After countless hours playing this game, things like these are what you will discover. Oh, and defending your first siege without losing a guy (and no auto-calc either)...now there's a feeling of intense pride.

If you can manage to get the (now flaky) multiplayer system to work anymore (it sure as heck wasn't designed for XP!), you're in for quite a treat. The Siege Pack adds in a new gameplay form, the Skirmish. This is the real-time battles of the game played separate from the game itself. These are great for when you don't have time to sit through the typical hours for an RTS, but have a taste for medieval battle.

Mystery Case Files: Return to Ravenhearst

Mystery Case Files: Return to Ravenhearst Review

I am fairly new to computer games. I have only been playing them for a few years and I really enjoyed playing "Ravenhearst". It was a lot of fun and somewhat challenging but it was nothing compared to "Return to Ravenhearst". This is, by far, the best game I have ever played ("Dire Grove" is almost as good).
Some of the puzzles are very challenging. I finally had to look-up one of them on the internet because I just couldn't figure it out, which became frustrating. This game is much more complex than many other seek & find games. It is more interactive and requires you to find objects that will be used in other parts of the game. You really have to use your brain to solve the puzzles, too. They are not so simple.
I do recommend that you play the first "Ravenhearst" before you play this game, though. You will get to know what the story is all about and it will make the second game so much more interesting. "Return to Ravenhearst" will blow you away!
Bravo to the developers of this game. Please make more like this one!

Mystery Case Files: Return to Ravenhearst Feature

    • Most popular hidden object series ever.
    • Deep, interactive storyline.
    • Point and click adventure game.

The top-selling hidden object game of all-time returns for its fifth installment! The first true storyline sequel in the Mystery Case Files series, players will now experience a level of immersion never before seen in a hidden object game. Come solve the mystery of Ravenhearst!

James Bond 007: Quantum of Solace

James Bond 007: Quantum of Solace Review

This game worth the price. The first levels are kind of crappy but as I went further into the game I really started to enjoy it. There are a few parts that are really "Bond-Like" and their attempts to make the game feel like the movie were so cool that I had to chuckle at it. You will definitely recgonize the parts when you see them. Overall, I give this game 5 stars for fun.

    Stronghold Legends

    Stronghold Legends Review

I recently received Stronghold Legends as a gift. Since then, I've really enjoyed this version of Stronghold. I'm quite familiar with Stronghold 2 (the prior version of Stronghold) and found playing Legends to be an easy transition. The graphics are sharp, colorful, and realistic. The AI is reasonable, and the computer makes good decisions which have been quite challenging during the missions played so far. The game is set up where you can play online against other players, or you can play directly against the computer. If you choose the computer, initially, there are 2 routes: the campaign and Legend trails route. I'm currently playing the campaign, which has been challenging at the moderate setting (vs. the easy or hard setting). Playing the campaign and Legends trail helps you to master the economy and battle aspects of the game. Then, you are free to set up your own skirmishes with the computer in Kingmaker mode, etc. Overall, the game is challenging and provides many hours of fun for the gamer who enjoys simulated castle adventures.

    Stronghold Legends Feature

    • 24 missions over 3 unique campaigns featuring legends like King Arthur, Vlad Dracula and Dietrich von Hildebrand
    • 31 unit types -- almost twice the number in Stronghold 2

Painkiller Triple Dose (Painkiller, Painkiller: Battle out of Hell, Painkiller: Overdose)

Painkiller Triple Dose (Painkiller, Painkiller: Battle out of Hell, Painkiller: Overdose) Review

I have played many FPS's in my day, but none have been so ridiculous. This game is just a large amount of fun with a large rainbow of very unique weapons. The enemies are all creative and very nice to look at, even for an older game.

The price is right for three great games, even though two of them are expansions. I haven't gotten to playing them all yet, but I'm sure they won't disappoint. A sequel just came out, so if you like this you should pick that up.

Painkiller Triple Dose (Painkiller, Painkiller: Battle out of Hell, Painkiller: Overdose) Feature

    • Contains full versions of Painkiller, Painkiller: Battle out of Hell and Painkiller: Overdose
    • Frantic single-player action! More than 50 otherworldly levels populated by more than 100 of hell¿s minions.

Painkiller Triple Dose (Painkiller, Painkiller: Battle out of Hell, Painkiller: Overdose) Overview

Bring the Pain! Trapped in a dark an unwelcoming world awaiting your purification, you must fight your way through over 50 species of Hell’s wildest incarnations as you attempt to stop the imminent unholy war. Painkiller and Painkiller Battle out of Hell took the world by storm, capturing the souls of FPS-fans and winning multiple Game of the Year awards. In Painkiller: Overdose, play as the tortured son of Heaven and Hell, Belial. Treasure Mountain! (Jewel Case)

    Treasure Mountain! (Jewel Case) Review

This was my favorite game when I was younger. If we still had it on our computer I would play it! I think it teaches reading and maybe a little math too. The best part about it is advancing in levels. As I remember it, you start on the first level of the mountain. You catch elves and and read their clues to find treasures in objects on that level. Once you've gained all of the treasures you move up to the next level of the mountain(by ladder, waterfall,or door?)You do the same for every level of the mountain, until you get to the last level where after you collect all of the treasures, you have to do a little ladder maze to get to the room to put all of the treasures away(in the treasure chest)then, you come back to your collection room(where you keep your treasures you earn from each game)with one treasure. It's fun to get more and more treasures as you play. Watch out though, as the levels advance the elves get more mischievious (they sprinkle you with dust and take your coins) This is a perfect game for any age kid. It's good for the little kids because they learn without realizing it.

    Bejeweled Twist

    Bejeweled Twist Review

Bejeweled is probably one of the most addictive casual games of all time. It definitely sits up there with Tetris, Dr. Mario, Solitaire and Zuma.
The new trend in casual games has seen a whole mountain of bejeweled clones but now Popcap has decided to just put a spin (no pun intended) on their own game.

Bejeweled Twist is fun... but it's no Bejeweled.
The twist idea is a bit like some of the Rubic's cube spin offs in my day, they were fun... but they just couldn't capture the challenge and excitement of a Rubic's cube.
Instead of swapping gems that sit adjacent to each other you twist a set of 4 gems hoping that one of the gems in your group matches up with a gem outside of the group. At first it's a bit of guess work but it becomes second nature quickly. The problem is that it makes it much more difficult to plan out big combos and set up chains. You'll be grinning with pride a lot less during this game and overall it just feels a bit more like a chore after a while.

Like Bejeweled 2, Twist has better graphics, a new creepier voice (whats with that anyway?) and some advanced combo gems. It features a few different game modes as well like Zen, Challenge and Blitz (similar but not as polished as the face book game) but they still don't seem to help the game out much. The Blitz mode in twist seems to have been the catalyst behind the idea for Bejeweled Blitz (which is the best bejeweled game out of the bunch in my opinion).
It almost feels like Popcap doesn't quite grasp the concept of what made bejeweled so successful.
A simple concept with a simple mechanic and gradually ramping difficulty curve.

The bonus meter is a great addition. It works by increasing your bonus as you continuously make matches, make a move without a match and your bonus meter is penalized. It's fun!
What's more, special combo's can be made by matching 4 color sequences in a row, randomly determined by the bonus bar. My only gripe is that cascades don't seem to influence the bonus bar at all, which kind of feels like a rip off, especially when you pick certain moves over others to intentionally cause a cascade.
The combo power gems add a lot more to the game as well. Now if you match up 5 or 6 gens you'll get a lightning gem that takes out all gems in the row and the column they sit in. If you can get your bonus bar all the way full you'll receive a fruit gem which is similar to a hypercube in Bejeweled 2 and Blitz.
Once the Fruit gem is matched and explodes a super fruit bonus becomes available but the problem is that this bonus is also random and usually the sequence it requires is just not possible. Consequently you lose your chance before you even start to try.

It's still fun when it does come together however. And the little fruit combo animation is exciting to watch.

But here's where it starts to go wrong.
Instead of running out of moves in Twist you'll find yourself competing with bombs that drop and need to be matched up with like colors to get rid of them before they explode and potentially end your game.

At first this is fine since they usually drop somewhere that they can be immediately matched. This does make it more difficult to set up combos so it helps the difficulty curve, but with twist the combos are already very difficult to set up in the first place.
However as the game advances new challenge tiles like locked gems (which can't be moved), coal gems (which can't be matched) and doom gems (a combination bomb, coal and locked gem) appear.
At about level 11 bombs start dropping with out any way to make a match for them without making a few moves that will not get you a match. So now you'll begin taking penalties on your bonus bar as well as not being able to set up combos.

As you reach level 13 there are so many locked gems, bombs, coal gems, and the occasional doom gem that not only will you lose your bonus chances, you also wont be able to make combos and you'll begin losing your opportunity to even have any strategic influence on the game at all.
Bejeweled Twist becomes a game of random chance and very quickly ceases to be fun.

I'm still playing it once in awhile which is why I decided to update my review, but my rating still stands.
It's a good waste of time but after a certain level you won't feel like you're earning your high score as much as your just lucky to get it. This is a death sentence for games of this kind since they encourage you to consider your decisions before making them, part of what makes them "Puzzle Games".
As soon as you realize your decisions have no more influence on the outcome the game degenerates to a click fest with generally disappointing results.

If your a puzzle game fan you'll most likely enjoy this game but don't expect it to replace your favorite, especially if you've been playing Bejeweld Blitz, Twist will be entertaining for awhile but that's most likely all it will be. Definitely not my new addiction.

    Bejeweled Twist Feature

    • Bejeweled Twist is now packaged with a full version of the addicting game, Peggle Nights from Pop Cap
    • With Bejeweled Twist, you rotate jewels instead of dragging them around
    • Create a line of three or more identical jewels, and each successive turn will give you a multiplier for even more points
    • Crisp, updated graphics deliver improved backgrounds and animations
    • Four different play modes include Classic, Challenge, Zen and Blitz

    Bejeweled Twist Overview

Spin match explode... WOW! It's a brilliant new way to play Bejeweled! Get set for a vivid sensory rush as you spin and match explosive gems for shockwaves of fun. Bejeweled Twist Specifications

Bejeweled Twist from PopCap is the most ambitious follow-up yet to the Bejeweled franchise of games. The original Bejeweled was the game that launched the "casual gaming" craze, with game mechanics that anyone can pick up and enjoy, and now with Bejeweled Twist, PopCap has added more depth and strategy with a twisting maneuver.

A New Twist on the Wildly Popular Game
PopCap has sold more than 25 million Bejeweled games, with over 350 million copies downloaded, making it one of the most successful game franchises in history. Bejeweled Twist was four years in the making, and brings an exciting spin on the classic gameplay: instead of dragging the jewels around, you rotate them. The goal is still to create a line of three or more identical jewels, and each successive turn in which you do so gives you a multiplier for even more points. A key difference from the older games is that you don't have to make a match with every turn.

The graphics have been updated as well, with new backgrounds and animations. The graphics are crisper and more modern while still retaining the fun, colorful look of the old games. The new game exhibits a high level of polish and production values, including nice animations in between levels, fun explosion effects when power-ups are used, and extras like being able to watch an instant replay of high-scoring matches.

    Four Different Play Modes
Bejeweled Twist features four different play modes: Classic, Challenge, Zen and Blitz. Classic mode lets you progress through increasingly difficult levels where you try to create jewel chains before a bomb detonates. Challenge mode creates specific tasks for you to complete, such as destroying ten gems in one move. In Blitz mode, you frantically try to accumulate as many points as you can within a certain amount of time. And in Zen mode, you can play a relaxing game without any obstacles or timers.

There are various power-ups that can be used for higher scores, such as a lightning gem, which you'll receive by matching five gems at once. The lightning gem then eliminates the entire vertical or horizontal column or row where the gem is located. When a you get consecutive matches to max out the chain meter, you'll receive a fruit gem that destroys all same-colored gems.

Like all great puzzle games, you'll be surprised how fast that time flies while playing Bejeweled Twist.

    Family Feud 2010 Edition

    Family Feud 2010 Edition Review

I bought this game around the time it came out. It pretty much plays the same as the modern version BEFORE the car and Bullseye round were added. You hear but don't see the host. You can play against the computer or another human. When you buzz in, your PC figure hits the plunger as well - nice touch. You're given ample time to type in your answers. This game is more leinient with answers than the FF game released a few years back - where you had to practically type in answers word for word to get credit for it.

There's the good, now the bad stuff. Your PC figure sometimes appears on screen when it seems it shouldn't, like when all the answers on the board are revealed. Not sure if this was done intentionally, but it doesn't look right, in my opinion. Some of the answers are in bad taste. One question was "Name a smell you always recognize." The Number 2 answer was "fart." If this is an indication of where our society is going, it's not pretty. The host tends to repeat himself.

There's a solo feature where you must defeat 12 families. So far, I've defeated seven. The graphics are decent and the questions capture the overall feel of the game. It's challenging. I got 199 in the Fast Money round the first time I played it - missed it by that much. A decent buy for , and you must have the disc in the PC to play it each time.

    Family Feud 2010 Edition Feature

    • Custom Avatars: Design your avatar from head to toe, including body, facial features, hair and clothes.
    • Text Entry Assistance with spell check, predictive text, and concept grouping so that you'll get the answer right even if it's not exact!
    • Premium graphics: 3D models, enhanced interactivity, and detailed set and game design to match the modern look and feel of the show.

    Family Feud 2010 Edition Overview

The Family Feud games features all of the favorite elements of the show as played on television, with two families playing against each other in a contest to name the most popular answers to survey questions posed to 100 people. The game is rendered with a dynamic redesign of familiar aspects such as the scoreboard, face offs, strikes, stealing and fast money rounds. The Family Feud game also incorporates connected gaming elements to make it easy and entertaining for friends and family to play and interact together.

    Lego Chess

    Lego Chess Review

My sons love other Lego software products. I was eager to try this one. But I was blocked by the Insert CD error message. But a quick internet search turned up a patch I needed to install (search for: lego chess insert CD). Now it works great.

I'm a software engineer too, just like one of the other reviewers. But finding this fix just takes some common sense. No need for a master's degree.

Nancy Drew: The Final Scene [Game Download]

Nancy Drew: The Final Scene [Game Download] Review

    This is a spoiler-free review.

    PLOT: 7/10
As the fifth one in the Nancy Drew series, this is the first that Nancy has become personally involved in as her friend has been kidnapped, and she must find out why and how before the theatre in which the kidnapping took place is demolished. As far as plots go, this one was rather interesting, though unoriginal, and I felt personally involved to save the friend and theatre during gameplay.

    CHARACTERS: 9/10
The characters were fascinating, and wonderfully ambiguous. Everyone had a motive, something to hide, and a means. Nancy Drew herself, unfortunately, was unusually annoying in this game. Her frantic speech was tolerable at the beginning of the game (as the friend had been taken right under her nose), but her never-ceasing panicking and unfounded screaming rampages at *everyone* was completely unnecessary for a detective who is usually very level-headed.

    SETTING: 8/10
A old theatre is a wonderful setting for a mystery, especially one that housed Harry Houdini himself. The only complaint is the rather confusing directional arrows that tend to only appear in one spot that can make navigating the complex hallways frustrating.

    PUZZLES: 4/10
Sadly, the majority of the game is spent talking to people, making it more of a mental mystery than a physical one. While this is fine for a book, it made the game easy to complete, due to the scarcity and simplicity of the puzzles. Also, the game was not very straightforward, and I had to call for hints on what to do next many times.

    LENGTH: 4/10
A very short game that is supposed to take place over the course of three whole days. Perhaps more puzzles might have lengthened it.

    ENDING: 10/10
Easily the best part of the game and what made it worth every penny. I had played the more recent Nancy Drew games (Haunting of Castle Malloy, Legend of the Crystal Skull) before playing this one and I had quite forgotten how heart-pounding and compelling the old games' endings used to be.

    OVERALL: 7/10
The good rating is for the ending, the characters, and the story. A pleasant addition to the Nancy Drew series

    TECHNICALITIES:
Another reviewer on here mentioned having difficulty downloading the game onto a Windows 7. Fearful of such an event, I downloaded the free trial first, which actually downloaded the entire game, though it would not let me play until I had paid. In any case, the download went without a hitch and I played the game successfully on a Windows 7 PC.

Nancy Drew: The Final Scene [Game Download] Feature

    • Learn About Houdini And His Magic Tricks.
    • Explore A Historical Theatre.
    • Work With The Police And Local Groups.
    • Two Difficulty Settings.

Nancy Drew: The Final Scene [Game Download] Overview

When a high school friend gets kidnapped in an historic theater, you, as Nancy Drew, are plunged into a desperate race against the clock. With the theater being torn down in just three days, can Nancy outwit the kidnapper and rescue her friend before the wrecking ball flies? Or will this be Maya's final scene?

Mystery Chronicles: Murder Among Friends [Game Download]

Mystery Chronicles: Murder Among Friends [Game Download] Review

This is a wonderful game for older children, and in particular, for adults. Unlike many hidden object games the player has to select the option to be given a clue. In some games the object will sparkle slightly if enough time has passed in between finding objects. Not so here, and some of them are so well hidden that asking for clues is going to be necessary, even if you have incredibly sharp eyes.

The puzzles are challenging without being impossible. Although on two separate puzzles the instructions are written poorly enough that I had to consult an online guide to even begin the solution. That would be the only proviso, some of the instructions are not written in a clear manner. If you don't have familiarity with some of the games referenced, do yourself a favor, stop the game and hop online to read basic instructions for the game reference (examples: Sudoku, Minesweeper, Mahjong) as the game instructions are not sufficient unless you've already played the referenced game). This game is likely too difficult for a child under twelve in spots, and may require adult assistance. Also, the subject material is better suited to older children. There are two options "relaxed mode" which will not time the game, or "timed" in which it is possible to run the clock out, if you are not using hints, in the later chapters in the games.

The puzzles do increase in difficulty up until the last chapter. Younger children will require assistance and may grow frustrated.

This is probably not the best game for beginning gamers as some familiarity with the hidden object/puzzle games will help in the more challenging areas. Great graphics, and well designed, the weakest part of the game is the story behind it. However, that's the least concern when it comes to actually playing the game.

A rare hidden object/puzzle game, clearly designed to appeal to adults as well. Highly recommended. Although playtime runs right around the five hour mark, please be aware that if you re-select a chapter to play, the required objects list changes. It's not simply the same game over and over, so it does warrant a replay.

    Supreme Ruler 2010

    Supreme Ruler 2010 Review

I'm an old-time PC gamer, and have been saying for years "god, I wish someone would release a solid, comprehensive hex-style/board-game style grande strategy game based on modern day military and politics rather than the same old WWII sims". I stumbled across this game quite by accident when reading over a review of the game on a popular game site. I was overjoyed! I downloaded the demo and was completely taken aback at the level of complexity (which I love), the volume of detail, and the smooth interface. I enjoyed my Arizona vs New Mexico game so much I ran out and bought the game.

Be warned: The game does have a steep learning curve. This is not for the casual RTS gamer. The few reviewers that have written negative reviews touched on this. So, if you are used to playing Grand Theft Auto, The Sims, or Command & Conquer, rather than Hearts of Iron and Operational Art of War, be prepared to invest considerable time learning the games economic, social, and policital models before jumping in an invading your neighboring countries. But, if you are persistent, the game really is not to hard to learn after a couple hours and the game developers are very helpful on their official game site forum. I spent about four hours with the demo and about two hours with the full game (after reading the great 155 page manual) to get the hang of the complexity of the game.

I've now completed three campaigns (lost two), and am having a great time. This is a serious, comprehensive wargame that sets out to model modern warfare, and does a top-notch job. I STRONGLY recommend this game to any serious wargamer. If you're not convinced, try the demo, and don't go by negative reviews.

    Wedding Dash [Game Download]

    Wedding Dash [Game Download] Review

Even if you are not into planning weddings, this game is tons of fun. Basically, you pick out a few elements of a wedding such as the type of cake, the entree, or the type of flowers based on a letter from the couple getting married. Then the main part of the game consists of seating and serving guests.

Certain people request to be seated next to someone else and others request not to be seated by a certain person. Then you serve them a three course meal. The challenge comes in trying to keep up with serving and seating the guests as they arrive and as they finish each dish.

It is a good game for all ages to enjoy.

    • Solve Wedding Day Drama.
    • Play Career Or Endless Reception Mode.
