Supreme Ruler 2010

Supreme Ruler 2010 Review

I'm an old-time PC gamer, and have been saying for years "god, I wish someone would release a solid, comprehensive hex-style/board-game style grande strategy game based on modern day military and politics rather than the same old WWII sims". I stumbled across this game quite by accident when reading over a review of the game on a popular game site. I was overjoyed! I downloaded the demo and was completely taken aback at the level of complexity (which I love), the volume of detail, and the smooth interface. I enjoyed my Arizona vs New Mexico game so much I ran out and bought the game.

Be warned: The game does have a steep learning curve. This is not for the casual RTS gamer. The few reviewers that have written negative reviews touched on this. So, if you are used to playing Grand Theft Auto, The Sims, or Command & Conquer, rather than Hearts of Iron and Operational Art of War, be prepared to invest considerable time learning the games economic, social, and policital models before jumping in an invading your neighboring countries. But, if you are persistent, the game really is not to hard to learn after a couple hours and the game developers are very helpful on their official game site forum. I spent about four hours with the demo and about two hours with the full game (after reading the great 155 page manual) to get the hang of the complexity of the game.

I've now completed three campaigns (lost two), and am having a great time. This is a serious, comprehensive wargame that sets out to model modern warfare, and does a top-notch job. I STRONGLY recommend this game to any serious wargamer. If you're not convinced, try the demo, and don't go by negative reviews.

House Of The Dead 3

House Of The Dead 3 Review

I've played all the HOD games and regard this one as the best of them. Best graphics yet and the gameplay and interaction is consistent with all the previous versions. I'd like it better if they gave the player an option of what character to portray and choice of weapon as they do in the original HOD but they restrict you to one party and the use of only a shotgun which works very efficiently against the "undead".

As for the story portrayed in the game, it seems to have more continuity with the orginal game and not much with HOD2 aside from the inclusion of one character from it.

Overall, "it's simply the best".

House Of The Dead 3 Feature

  • Fend off creatures as you race for your life
  • Pump the undead full of lead!
  • Intense graphics and gory detail.
  • Rare title, Windows ME, 2000, XP

CH Products Pro Pedals USB Flight Simulator Pedals ( 300-111 )

CH Products Pro Pedals USB Flight Simulator Pedals ( 300-111 ) Review

I've really enjoyed having rudder pedals for additional realism in my X-plane flight sim for Mac and these get the job done. My initial response to them was not so great because they have a kind of, I don't know, rut they get into when they are centered, so it takes additional effort to push them out of center position before you can control them smoothly. This bugged me because it's not like the real thing, but I can see that it would be hard to keep them centered otherwise. With some practice, I've been able to get over it a bit and in X-plane you can assign a "null zone" where control input doesn't have any affect, so that helps prevent jarring movements in the game as you try to push the pedals out of the rut.

I also do not like that they have a lip at the bottom of the pedals to hold your foot up. This, again, is not like the real thing and normally you keep your feet on the floor (like in driving a car) when you're flying an airplane and don't need the brakes, but again with a little practice you can get used to this. The pedals do push down at the top for braking (at the risk of sounding redundant, this too is not like the real thing, but that's okay). The pedals come with two odd looking pieces of plastic you can place in the pedal tracks to convert them for use in driving games, which is a nice touch. With those pieces in place, the pedals will not move and you can use then for gas and brake pedals.

Bottom line--like most electronic gadgets I've bought, these pedals are not as cool as I had expected they would be, but they get the job done. I would recommend them if you want to add an additional layer of realism to your flight sim for flight training or just the cool feeling of taxiing a 747 to the runway.

    Starlancer

    Starlancer Review

I fell in love with this game when it first came out years ago. And there aren't, or weren't, many Microsoft games I could easily say that about. Yeah... it's not the greatest space combat sim ever, but it's well worth the play and I have enjoyed it over and over again.

If you don't know much about the game, think Space: Above and Beyond. If you didn't watch that TV show from the mid-90's it's finally out on DVD so think about picking it up to watch it and you'll understand the allure of Starlancer to someone like myself.

I'm not a multiplayer kind of guy so I never used the multiplayer function. I preferred single player missions only.

I think the various fighters you get to pilot provide an excellent variety along with the plethora of different types of guns and missiles you can arm your fighter with. The only thing I would have loved was the option to trade out your fixed guns for different types of guns. That would have made an excellent game absolutely superb!

What more is there to say? If you are a fan of realistic space combat sims, then this game probably isn't for you. If you liked Space: Above and Beyond, you'll probably like this game too.

    Starlancer Specifications

StarLancer recruits space fighter pilots into the 45th Volunteers, a ragtag group of U.S.-led Western Alliance freedom fighters tossed into the war against Russia's Eastern Coalition. It's the cold war in space.

This is the first game by Digital Anvil, the company formed by legendary game designers Chris and Erin Roberts of Wing Commander, Privateer, and Strike Commander fame. It's no surprise that StarLancer's gameplay follows standards set by its classic predecessor and obvious inspiration, Wing Commander. Players are briefed on the tactical situation of the upcoming mission, then choose a fighter and ordnance. Only a few playable ships are offered at the outset; mission performance determines how quickly you earn access to more powerful fighters.

StarLancer's ships are well balanced: some are fast and lightly armored, while others carry powerful weaponry but can't keep up with an agile foe. But while the ships are cool, they lack the customizing features found in FreeSpace 2 and Tachyon: The Fringe. You're able to equip particular missiles and add additional afterburner fuel, but you can't customize gun weaponry or add upgrades or special features.

StarLancer's mission design is certainly its best feature. Mission goals often change on the fly, and frequent pilot chatter immerses players into the game's war atmosphere. Decisions made during missions can drastically alter later missions. For instance, if you fail to eliminate an enemy battleship early in the game you'll face a tough fight in a later mission when the enemy reinforces its front lines with that same battleship.

Though offering nothing really new to the space combat genre, StarLancer's crisp 3-D engine, frenetic combat action, and complex missions make enlisting worthwhile. --Doug Radcliffe

    Pros:

    • Keeps you on your toes by switching objectives midmission
    • Missions feature multiple paths to victory and failure
    • Stellar multiplayer support with deathmatch, team, and cooperative play
    • Excellent musical score
    Cons:
    • Inability to fully customize ships
    • Visually pleasing, but it doesn't exceed standards set by FreeSpace 2

    Eve Online

    Eve Online Review

I've been playing eve off and on for three years. I thought I'd give somewhat of a more in-depth view on the other side of eve since most people who have reviewed it here seem to be new people and don't have much experience with people or the game in general. Oh and this is a little long, but it deals with a lot of things I think people should be aware of. So if you're thinking about buying eve, please read this.

First of all, let me stress that this game really is not for everyone. Also forget the "rating" this isn't really a game for kids and you'll see why if you read on.

Now, if you could have me sum up eve in just a few words here's what I would say. Eve is unforgiving. It's harsh, it's cruel and it's full of people that will stab you in the back, steal everything you have and literally leave you with nothing left if they can. I kid you not, you can literally lose EVERYTHING you have if you're not careful.

There's many ways this could happen. In eve most new players have no idea what they're getting into. This game practically encourages pirating, killing other players, stealing, cheating, lying, everything of the sort to get YOUR way. It, for the most part, is not a friendly game.

There's a lot to explain so let me start off with this... You have a spaceship right? Lets say someone comes by and just blows your ship up. What happens? Well in most games if you die you respawn. Maybe you're a ghost and have to find your corpse, maybe you just poof... come back to life. In eve if your ship is blown up, that's it. It's gone. It's space rubble. When your ship does blow up, you eject into a "capsule" it's your little escape pod. You can use that to fly to a station, get in a new ship. But your capsule can (And eventually WILL) be blown up. Then you really will be dead, you have clones so if you do die you start up as a new clone, in a station, but I'll talk more about that later because there's a few important things about that.

Also, you can buy insurance for ships so when your spaceship does blow up you at least get some money (called ISK in game) back. But you're not just losing your ship, you're losing everything that was in and on that ship too. All your turrets, your ammo, rigs (made to enhance certain aspects of the ship. Usually VERY expensive and will either cost more than the ship or just a heck of a lot), etc. and everything you had on it can easily total more than the whole ship you purchased or will almost always definitely be more than you get from insurance.

So if you die, you're losing money, a lot of money usually. When you get up to flying battleships you'll usually be losing 200 - 300~ million isk if it gets blown up. So if you're not careful and if you die a lot you can easily end up running out of money.

I know because this happened to me once when I first started playing eve. This one guy kept killing me over and over and over again. That's all he would do and I literally lost everything I had. I had no ships, I had no money. So do not be under the false illusion that you're safe or ok. The only way you're safe in eve is if you're in a station. That's it. If you're out in space then anything can happen.

Now... You might say that it's really unfair and whatever, and it is. I've seen a lot of new players come in, have fun and all of a sudden one guy comes and ruins the entire game for them and they never play it again. That's how eve is.

You might say but "what about security?"! Well, let me tell you this. It doesn't matter. Security levels dictate how much a given system has in security. Think, space police. Now do not be under the illusion that concord (the space police) is there for your protection. What they are there for is consequence. Security goes from 1.0 to 0.0. 1.0 having the highest security, 0.0 having none. If you're in a high security system (Just called hi-sec) and someone comes along and start attacking you concord isn't meant to come in and protect you, they're mainly there to be like.. Ok, he attacked you, he's going to get blown up. Simply because it takes concord sometime to get to you and by the time they get to you, you're probably already going to be dead.

Most people, I don't want to say exploit this, but they use it to their advantage. For instace, it's not very hard to go and pick on new players or people who are mining and what a lot of people do is buy cheap ships that they don't care if it blows up and try to kill you. If they kill you, great, if they don't kill you and get blown up.. That's fine too, it didn't cost much AND they get insurance when their ship blows up. And depending on the ship (Different ships have different insurances) if you blow them up they might actually get MORE money than they put into it in the first place so you're just helping them by protecting yourself. This happens a lot, and I mean that whole heart-idly. There's events like "Hulkmageddon" you can google it, look up youtube videos of it, people go around purposely killing people that are mining. They just get in some cheap ship and kill mining ships (Which have little to no defenses).

Also, if you're not careful and you're going to a certain area.. You might go into low sec, or null sec (0.0), and you'll just simply die. People love it when a newbie comes into low or null sec because it's just a free kill. So you need to make sure you know where you going, the route you're taking and although hi sec isn't safe, it's safer.

Also a quick note, I mentioned earlier that when you're in your capsule you can get killed (Called getting "podded" in the game). Your clone has a certain amount of skill points it can hold. If lets say, you've been playing for a while and you have 5 million skill points but you never upgraded your clone and it only holds 1 million skill points, if you die... You're going to lose a large portion of your skillpoints. I've never had it happen to me personally so I can't tell you the exact numbers, but as Paul said in a comment to this review, "When you get podded you will lose 20% of the difference between your clone's skill points and your skill points from your highest-trained (by rank and SP) skills. So, you would lose a huge chunk, but not to the point where you're starting new." So, that's good to know. Although you'll still be losing some skill points. It's just good to know and be aware of that :)

Oh and there are people that make their living in the game by stealing. If you have a corporation, trust no one. People have literally lost everything because they trusted some person. I even knew of this one person who went into a corp, became a director (Think like a vice president or something close to that), got a vote to remove the owner of the corp, became the ceo, kicked everyone out of the corp, stole everything, and took over the corp. Believe me, this isn't rare either. You can look on youtube and see people who steal things ALL the time from other people and then LAUGH about it. But that's eve.

Also, many players trick new players into stealing from them. If you're in space and you see a cargo container... DO NOT TAKE ANYTHING FROM IT. If you take something from it, you're stealing from that player and that player can kill you WITHOUT any interference from concord. Once again he can kill you without punishment, he can kill you without taking any penalty. People will trick new players in many ways. Naming cargo containers in space with YOUR name to make you think it's your cargo container in hopes you take it so they can kill you. But it can also be a lot of fun.

I remember one time I was playing as my alt and I was in a place where a lot of new players were at and outside the station there was a cargo container named "Free ammo!". It was obvious who set up the trap, because there was a wolf (An assault frigate, it's a t2 ship) sitting off the station. He only stuck out like a sore thumb. Anyways so I flew towards it and watched and laughed as he sped towards me. Then I would just warp off. I would wait a minute or two. I bookmarked the spot so I could come right back to the can.. I warped back to it and he was away once again... He came speeding back at me and I left. I did this for quite a few minutes, on and off... He eventually quit. But it's little things like that that can make eve really special :)

So I hope that might give you a better idea of some of the things in eve that many people seem to leave out.

Now, there's a lot you can do in eve, you can start a corporation (ie. guild), you can have your own station, you can mine from moons and get tons of resources and make ridiculous amounts of money. You can now build refineries on planets and gather resources on them. Someone in my corp said, "It's carebear gone crazy" and that couldn't be more true. You can fly huge ships and partake in amazingly epic battles with hundreds of ships. Just a few days ago I went in with a large fleet and ran into a system where there was an avatar, a leviathan (They are titans, the biggest ships in the game), and hundreds of people... It was an awesome fight :)

    But this all takes time.

Eve isn't like a normal game, you don't really have a "level". You can't just get to level 80 and woo now you can do everything. This game is based off of skills and skillpoints. Each skill can be leveled up 5 times. Each level of a skill takes a certain amount of time. Training a skill to level 1 might take you 15 minutes, level 2 might take you an hour, level 3 might take you 8 hours, level 4 might take you a whole day, level 5 might take you a week. Some level 5 skills literally take over a month to train. Why do you need that? Certain ships need certain skills. To fly a carrier for instance, you're going to need that racial battleship at level 5, as well as advanced spaceship command 5. Those each take about 30days (Depending on your attributes). T2 and other higher class ships also require a lot of level 5 skills.

Skills in eve keep training even when you're not playing, so if you log off your skill keeps training. If you want to fly a titan (biggest ship in the game) for a new player it would take them about an entire year to get all the skills just to learn how to fly it. Now you have to purchase these skills which would be probably around 5 billion isk. Then you have to buy (Or build) the ship, and fittings.

Eve is a game that takes time and it's definitely not for everyone.

If you're thinking about buying this game, there is a free trial. I can give you a 21 day trial or you can get a 14 day trial from the eve online website. I would highly recommended you do the trial, see how it is and what you think before you buy it.

Also speaking about money.. Eve does require a monthly fee. It's . However, you can buy game time with ISK. Each "plex" is around 250million isk and adds 30 days of game time. So if you have lots of isk you can buy plex's and not have to pay for eve's monthly fee. So theoretically, after a while you can eventually never have to pay for eve again. Also, on the flip side.. if you need ISK you can sell plex's. Which are and sell for, as I mentioned earlier around 250million isk.

Although the price of a plex changes with the economy, during the summer months it usually rises to 300 - 400mil. During the off seasons it can get down to the average 250mil~. How long would it take for you to play till you can buy your own plexs with isk? Well.. That all depends on you and what you do.

If you're mining in hi-sec you're usually going to be making a max of 10 - 15mil an hour. Running missions is usually always more profitable. If you're mining to manufacture items, it just depends on what you're making, how much youre making and the economy. There's some people that just sit in stations, they never undock. They just play the market, buy low, sell high and train their skills and I know some guys who make ridiculous amounts of money doing that. I know people that make enough money to buy their plex's just after a few months, but it just depends.

The best way to make ISK (imo) is to find a corp/alliance in 0.0 and npc's in that space are the best. There's npc's that are 1, 5, 7+ million EACH. There's anomalies that spawn too, which just hold tons of those expensive rats (npc's) and people just run those 24/7. Which I personally do. There's also much more expensive ore in 0.0 but ratting makes MUCH more isk than mining. Mining in 0.0 I would make around 100 - 200mil a day. But ratting... I would make that in just two or so hours with a few friends to help :)

Also there's people that scam in eve. They put up contracts for a couple hundred mil. They put a lot of junk in the contract hoping that the person who buys it doesn't pay attention and realize that the ship they think they're getting a good deal on.. Isn't even there. So they'll spend 200mil and realize.. They just got 10mil worth of junk.

Also to note, when you start eve and have a subscription it doesn't just end when the subscription ends. If you do NOT cancel the subscription it will renew EVEN IF YOU DON'T TELL IT TO. Once again, it WILL automatically RENEW at the end of the subscription if you do NOT cancel it.

    Keep that in mind.

Also, eve has free expansions. Whenever CCP comes out with something new for eve, it's free. You don't need to buy some expansion, it's free. Dominion was just released last year which was a major overhaul of practically everything in the game and how it looks. They updated all the visuals and it looks fantastic. They also just released Tyrannis in May. Which lets you scan planets, build on planets and mine them. As well as updating other parts of the game but that was the main aspect of it. Late this year they should be introducing walking in stations. Eve is always growing, it might be slow, but each time they add something it's always amazing and they put a lot of work into the game and it really shows.

Anyways, I know this was long and I apologize, but there's so much to eve I can't even scratch the surface. I hope this helps, thank you for reading.

Also feel free to contact me if you would like any more info. I'm always glad to help. Whether it's by giving you a 21 day trial or by helping you set up your character and figure out what YOU want to do and help you use your time effectively. But eve.. Once you get going can be horribly addicting. I cannot stress this enough.

I personally know a guy who has 12 accounts. I only have 2, but that's all I feel like I need right now. But pvp is so much fun and it's so addicting. Honestly there's nothing like it in another game out there right now. I used to play wow, I had 70 mages, hunters, warriors. Honestly you can't even compare the two. After playing eve.. Wow is just too boring and simple and there's no excitement in pvp. You don't have to risk losing your ship that you just paid 700million isk for that also has another billion isk in fittings. It can be that type of on your edge excitement. Where your armor is running low, his is running low.. You're both into structure and BAM! He dies! (Or you...) It's just so fun!!! The first few times you lose a ship, it's normal for it to be a big deal however.. it gets better and after a few months you'll be losing ships that are hundreds of millions of isk and (hopefully) you just enjoy it. It's a game after all.

I also make eve videos on youtube, which you can see in my profile on amazon.

I hope this helps, remember to feel free to contact me. I'm always happy to help! :)

    Secrets Of Atlantis

    Secrets Of Atlantis Review

This is a classical adventure game with a good number of puzzles of various complexities, a strong storyline, much better than average graphic, excellent mood and very good to excellent voice acting. My only problem with the game is the first person setting. In order to avoid dizziness in some players, other games either offer a so called "slide mode" (see Scratches), an option to slow down the mouse sensitivity and with this to reduce the spinning effect on the player, or an option to play it in 3rd person - not too many games offer this most desirable option though -

Despite all the spinning I had to endure, I finished the game because it is just so good. I can see how the Soduku and Texas holding can be a turn off for some, but they fit in the storyline very well and I personally enjoyed both. The story follows the quest for some medals and related objects, in order to find the way to Atlantis. During the course, it brings together 3 special characters with ancient Atlantinean heritage and a "bad guy" for added interest. I do not think that this storyline is any worse than most recent, successful Hollywood adventure movies...; plus it is interactive!

The scenes are: the beautifully rendered Hindenburg, the Empire State Building, Macao, an Indian palace, a Mezopotamian village and an imaginary underground setting, all nicely staged in the 1920s and offering plenty to discover.

I am eagerly waiting for the next installment that is clearly implied with the ending that, BYTW, is satsifying on its own terms. But Dreamcatcher Interactive, please, think about those with motion sickness!

Myst Trilogy (Myst Masterpiece, Riven, Myst III - Exile)

Myst Trilogy (Myst Masterpiece, Riven, Myst III - Exile) Review

Myst is a wonderful game full of puzzles, fun, and it takes a LOT of brain power. I enjoyed playing Myst, although for children, I would recommend adult help (some puzzles are REALLY tricky) I would say though, that this game probably shouldn't be played by children under 12. Again, very tricky. There is a little bit of a kind of spooky atmosphere (not terribly spooky), but kids might not like it. Myst is a big puzzle. There are no directions, you're just dropped on an island, all alone. You have to find special books that take you to different islands, and at every island, lies more and more puzzles. I think this game is best played in a group or with a friend. Together you can use your different skills to solve the puzzles.
I would recommend this Myst Trilogy pack to anyone that enjoyed the game, or is interested. Also, the price is wonderful. If you like puzzles, thinking, and teamwork, buy this Myst Trilogy pack!

    Gutterball 2 [Game Download]

    Gutterball 2 [Game Download] Review

I downloaded this to my older computer running XP Home SP2 (soon to be SP3 hopefully !) and it runs well. I upped the resolution to 800x600 from the default 640x480 because the game just looks better at the higher resolution. If you have a better cpu and graphics card you can go many gradations higher than that. On this machine 800x600 is as good as it gets ! So the graphic ability of this game is a big plus. It's a 14mb game and requires little resources unless you choose to play it at a very high resolution. It's simple and fun with announcers that say panned lines (Natasha's my fave) with lines like 'you're making the place hot' and '3 strikas in a row oh you're wonderful!'. I just play this game on a few 'normal' lanes but there are some very weird and fairly difficult lanes like iceberg and funhouse. You'll definitely be rolling gutterballs there ! This cheapo game is good for maybe 2 or 3 200 plus games a day just so I can hear Natasha praise me or tell me I stink in her steamy little Russian accent. It's nothing to be taken seriously but for a very casual one person game it really hits a nerve.

Mystery Stories: Island of Hope [Game Download]

Mystery Stories: Island of Hope [Game Download] Review

This is one of the harder games of this type that I have downloaded and purchased. Some of the items are well-hidden, and be very careful since once you run out of clues, that's it until you find the item. There are different types of levels--sometimes you have to find the differences between two screens, sometimes you find things based on the sound they make (occasionally deceptive!), sometimes instead of a list you are given the items in groups of 2-6 that are not crossed off as you find them, which can be confusing if you have to pause the game and forget what you have already found. One problem with it is that it seems endless! I have been playing this for so long, and they keep returning to the same rooms, so I actually remember where items are from the last time I was there (they have begun repeating some of their items). There is no end in sight and I am tired of the same search locations. Overall, though, it's challenging. You don't have to be timed, and there is no penalty for wrong clicks. Give it a try.

Mystery Stories: Island of Hope [Game Download] Feature

    • Adventure And Free Play Mode.
    • 87 Levels Of Mystery.
    • 8 Bonus Games.
    • Solve The Secret Of The Ancient Caribbean Dream Island.

Mystery Stories: Island of Hope [Game Download] Overview

Fantastic beaches, crystal-clear water and the magic of Mayan ruins hold the promise of a wonderful time for top New York journalist Michelle Deanfield on her Caribbean island vacation. And then there is that good-looking diving instructor... However, the director of the local museum suddenly disappears, as does a precious Mayan casket. Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper

Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper Review

Frogwares`Sherlock Holmes game series have improved with each release and we must say Ripper, the latest installment, is almost a perfect modern adventure game. The story is gripping, graphics are crisp, the dialogue is very well written, and the puzzles make sense. We said almost just because a walkthrough is needed in several occasions when pathfinding is an issue. The biggest improvement is in the puzzle area: they are all relevant and some (such as the yiddish language vault) are truly exciting to solve.
Bravo to Frogwares - here is waiting for a new story from them

Sherlock Holmes vs. Jack the Ripper Feature

    • Discover the hidden side of London and the sinister streets of Whitechapel, all faithfully recreated (e.g. public work house, hospitals, brothels, etc.).
    • The ability to switch between the role of the famous detective Sherlock Holmes or his trusted friend Doctor Watson with a progressive help system always at your fingertips when needed.

    Ultimate Ride Coaster: Disney Edition

Ultimate Ride Coaster: Disney Edition Review

If you're into designing the rides, this game is much better than Roller Coaster Tycoon, which is a fine game, but should have been called Amusement Park Tycoon because it's more about managing the park.
This game is about building the rides! While simple enough to learn, it offers more creative freedom than RCT allowing you to bend track shapes & tweak them to fit, unlike RCT which limits you to the prefab modules. This one has modules as well, but they're tweakable.
You can also add your own music, so you can try to recreate Space Mountain with the actual Michael Giacchino score!
Eventually you might want to get really technical with No Limits Coaster, but this is a great starter with a much smaller learning curve, perfect for getting your feet wet!

    Dora 2 Pack

    Dora 2 Pack Review

I bought this as a gift for my friend's 3 year old daughter. She LOVES it, and can play it independently now (she had to have some help when she first started). Her big sisters have lots of games that she can't play, so now she has two just for her. The only thing that I don't like is that the disc has to be in the computer to play the game. My friend has a laptop in the living room for her girls to use, and it's not very convenient to have to find and insert the disc when her little one wants to play.

    All Points Bulletin

    All Points Bulletin Review

Before I properly review this game I would just like to state that I have been playing this game since the Closed Beta (3rd phase/group "Sharp Shooters" I believe) and have probably logged over 100 hours thus far. I say this because I've read too many reviews by people who seemed to have not played very much of the game, considering it is similar to an "MMO" and requires more "studying", if you will. I will try to be as in-depth as possible, so that for those that are really questioning whether or not to buy the game will hopefully be able to make that decision hear. Read as much as you like.

In short, I can't pull myself away from this game. It's definitely not perfect or without a number of issues... But the mix of unique vehicles, tight gunplay, and immense customization make for quite an appealing concoction.

    GRAPHICS/AUDIO
I usually would, but I won't cover the graphics or the audio extensively... I want to mainly focus on the gameplay here because that seems to be the main topic of discussion. If that's all you really care about, please skip the following:
-The graphics are good, not great. There is a lot of pop-in even on MAX settings, and there seems to be a lack of graphical settings (i.e. dynamic shadows always on). It's just a min-max slider with some Anti-aliasing options. The PC requirements are a bit much (currently a Quad core is pretty much required for a stable 30+ fps due to some dual core and Realtek issues) and what they currently list as required/recommended should probably be bumped up a bit. Also if you have a 32-bit OS, customized textures will be automatically set to low-res due to memory constraints.
-The audio in this game is quite good. Haven't played too many games that have the Doppler effect... in effect. Each vehicle has a unique engine sound, and (this also ties into the customization aspect) advanced player vehicles can choose different components that change the sound of the turbo, transmission, speaker, siren, exhaust, dump valve, and amp audio (all pulled straight from the game). The weapons are decent enough to the point where they are satisfying to shoot. You can hear bullets whiz past you... and rocket launchers... well, let's just say thanks to the aforementioned Doppler effect, the sound of rockets flying by let's everyone nearby know you mean business. It strikes fear into my heart every time I hear it. Needless to say, the audio in this game was given special attention during development, which makes me very happy.

    GAMEPLAY
I'm going to separate this into Vehicles, Combat, and Customization if that's fine with you?

    Vehicles
-A lot of people are complaining about how vehicles control in APB. They claim "delayed steering" and the like. And well, sadly they are right. You will often have to turn a little bit sooner than you think you should. Why do they control kinda crappy? Well it's for a good cause. The vehicles have delayed response because they are controlled server-side, meaning how well the vehicles control depend on your latency/lag/ping/etc. to the server. (Just to note, I usually have around 100ms on the North American servers, which are located in Dallas, and I'm from Chicago. Not bad, but not great for a competitive game like this.) They do it server-side so that collisions are more accurately predicted and to prevent the implementation of vehicle hacks. If vehicle control was done client-side, every time you saw yourself hitting pedestrians or enemy players, there would be a delayed response to that... Meaning that visually, you would see pedestrians slide through your vehicle and probably not react (aka DIE) until you have already passed through them. As it currently stands, vehicle collisions are VERY accurate and satisfying thanks to their decision to do this server-side. You get used to the delay to the point where you dont even think about it and it just works naturally. Trust me. It's really annoying for the first few hours, but it gets better.
-Vehicle physics is pretty spot on, the wheels have a good bounce to them. Some vehicles have certain specialties (one jeep has the uncanny ability to rarely ever stay flipped over)... both good and bad (one vehicle seems to accelerate too quickly for its own good, often popping a wheelie). The damage model is kinda.. meh. You can't shoot through windows, and you can't shoot tires out sadly. You really only see dents being made in cars after collisions. So, visually, the vehicles kind of feel dead... in some ways. It's kind of hard to explain, I guess. Hopefully some upgrades to the vehicle system will be made. Overall, though, it's enough to create satisfying driving experiences. There's nothing like taking a chase up onto the freeway with your buddies hanging out of the windows shooting at the enemy vehicle in front of us as we fly through the air due to having driven up one of the many number of ramps found throughout San Paro. It's not uncommon to see a group of people making their own race tracks in the city. Let's just say that there are MANY lols to be had with the vehicles and physics in this game (one time I jumped out of my speeding car to see that the car had just a second after rammed into my enemy's vehicle at an incredible speed, causing his car to flip over a number of times in front of me as I unloaded just enough rounds to make him explode before he stopped rolling. I didn't even know he was in front of me...)

    Combat
-When I read reviews about the combat in APB, they say this is where the game falls short. Why? Well mainly because of the boring, repetitive missions, and imbalanced weapons. I will not lie to you. The missions pretty much consist of running to a point and pressing the F key, capturing a circle, holding onto a task item for a certain amount of time, "escaping", and just plain ol' killing the opposition. The missions themselves are not fun, but the PVP combat still is. The missions are only there as a means of creating PVP opportunities. I mean, let's be serious here, they aren't really any different from the Multiplayer Modes found in any other online shooter, right? And these are basically fetch quests, which are found in every single MMO... except you usually do those all by yourself. That's real fun, right? In either case, the missions bring you and your opposition to areas ALL over the city districts. I don't think I've ever had a pvp mission firefight in the same area more than TWICE. And that is definitely saying something considering I've been playing for over 100 hours (75% of which was most likely in the action district). So what that pretty much means is... you won't be playing the same "map" over and over again like in Call of Duty. You can't memorize every single spot, so you can't really anticipate anything. Almost everytime I accept a mission, I'll be brought to a new and interesting area with lots of verticality, and different paths to take for flanking. There is almost always more than one way to get to an area, which is great.
-The balance. That's hard to determine. There definitely is a way for a player to gain an advantage over another new player. There are weapon upgrades, character upgrades, and vehicle upgrades that add small stat bonuses (I really mean small, like 12% reloading increase... ooooh). I won't lie, it probably does make a difference in some situations, but not to the amount of absurdity I've seen some people raise it to. No matter what your level, your unupgraded weapon can take out any upgraded weapon with the right team tactics and skill. This game is really meant to be a TEAM game. Not a go out and solo everything with one type of gun game. You need to take advantage of many ranges, and be ready to change weapon loadouts on the fly (with field supplier upgrade, allowing you to change weapons and resupply anywhere every 300 seconds or so). Usually it's best for teammates to take advantage of certain ranges. Have everyone equipped with different types of weapons for different situations. Have someone specialize in close-range with the sub-machine gun and less-than-lethal taser, while someone sits back with a bolt-action sniper rifle, picking off those that you have damaged who attempt to run away. This game is more tactics than skill based. Most of my kills have been made when my enemy was unaware of my presence or when I got the jump on him/her, or had a more advantageous position (ie, behind cover while he was out in the open). This game is not as imbalanced as other people may try to say. It's just that this game can have quite a steep learning curve for some people. It is very competitive, and you will often run into groups of clans or hardcore players that utilize every aspect of teamwork available to take you out. That's why it is almost NECESSARY to play this game in a group with some friends or hopefully people that you know. Random pub groups work better than solo, but not quite as well as with friends. I cannot stress this enough. You will have a lot more fun playing with some friends. I REALLY. Really. Mean it.

    Customization
No matter what review you read, you will no doubt find that this is at least one are of the game that undoubtedly shines in. There really is limitless means of customization in terms of your character's and vehicle's appearance (and sound). Since I'm an audio guy, my personal favorite thing is the music studio, which if you've ready anything about this game you should know about. I can make full length songs and 5-second themes that play to the player I just killed, and to everyone in a mission when I've won. It's great because I can now not only show off my killing skills, but also my CREATIVE skills. There is a lot of time you can spend customizing yourself to look like anything. I won't even bother trying to explain the amount of depth found in most of the editors. Just trust me that it's enough and is only planned to continue growing. The only thing people might not like is that clothing, decals, vehicle parts and the like are unlocked as you level contacts and organizations in the action districts (done by doing missions). So you will be somewhat limited in terms of creation until you play a bit of the action-oriented side of the game. There are also many opportunities to show off your creations with display points, graffiti points, and dj studios in the social district that are purchasable, winnable, or first-come first-serve...able.

    SUMMARY
So as you can tell, I find this game very enjoyable when playing in a group and with my friends. I do happen to be quite decent at this game, so that may be why I don't find it as "imbalanced" as other people even when I don't have any upgraded weapons. Or maybe the matchmaking is just working like it should for me, and not posing me against those high levels when I'm still myself a low level (I played much more in beta than I currently have at release).

This game is a very promising future, though. Why? Because RealTime Worlds actually listens to us, the players. They've made some rather drastic changes to the game based on feedback (RTW item manufacturing cost removed, particular weapons nerfed), and will continue to direct the game in accordance with what we really want. We've been screaming for player-housing, and guess what? It's been pretty much verified that it will be worked on eventually as the engine was already designed for it. Melee weapons are also looking to be a possibility. And those chaos districts (free-for-all) are already being worked on. I'd recommend taking a look at the APB forums if you don't believe me, there's a Dev Tracker that let's you see every post by the developers. I've probably read through every single one since I've been in beta. These guys seem truly dedicated to this game.. and are just as excited as the players are to see what it will turn into months, years, from now.
It's a niche title, I can't at all guarantee you'll like it. The combat mechanics are hard to describe, you'll just have to watch some gameplay videos on Youtube and elsewhere to see if it fits your style. I honestly just hope that people who are on the edge will at least give it a try if they think they're interested... as you may end up enjoying it just as much as I did. It's a shame but... It seems like the most voiced people are those that utterly despise this game. People like me that really love the concept and keep coming back to it day after day... are being drowned out. I hope this helped!

    Half-Life Platinum Collection Second Edition

Half-Life Platinum Collection Second Edition Review

The Half-Life series without a shadow of doubt has a solid reputation of being one of the best FPS titles of all time, if not one of the best games of all time more generally. Valve's FPS classic will not disappoint for any who don't mind the dated graphics, and I highly recommend it. Despite the graphics, however, the game has remarkably good support for a game of its age and classic nature. It remains playable and downloadable once registered on Steam even to this day virtually without issue. Even though the graphics are dated and the game is quite old, the game has quite good support for a wide range of monitor resolutions - arguably better support for many widescreen monitors of today than many titles that have been released even very recently.

But with this set that isn't all you get! You also get the good old classic Counterstrike! Still widely played and enjoyed to this day much like the classic Half-Life, Counterstrike will provide you with hours of competitive online play on a wide variety of maps on the wonderful (and free!) Steam online service provided by Valve. Counterstrike and its sequel Counterstrike: Source are still among the most popular online FPS titles for the PC and have an incredible following of gamers who still regularly play these classic titles on Steam.

When I got my Half-Life Platinum set years ago, I mainly enjoyed Counterstrike, and I unfortunately made the mistake of giving up on Half-Life, only to find years later I was drawn back into the Half-Life series after having my view of the gaming world turned upside down by the FPS classic subsequently released by Valve known as Half-Life 2. Subsequently, realizing I just couldn't get enough Half-Life 2, I decided to go back and revisit the classic Half-Life to see if I had just overlooked its widely acclaimed quality as being one of the best games ever released. Boy am I glad I did! Unable to find my old Half-Life discs, I purchased the Half-Life Anthology set on Steam for the bargain price of around 14$, and realized the wonders of the Half-Life universe.

I would highly recommend all of the original Half-Life games to anyone interested in revisiting (or maybe just visiting for the first time!) one of the FPS genre's most enduring and timeless gaming franchises still enjoyed to this day. The Half-Life story and world is quite simply unrivaled in terms of its intriguing story and timeless gameplay, and is sure to remain an enduring classic for some time. 5/5 stars!

    Spellforce Universe

    Spellforce Universe Review

got the game, after I played a demo.. great stories tons of quests to make play non linear.. enough difficulty in places. Game came ready to go with the code right on the cd package.. I have yet to install the second disk, and have well over 50 hours of play all ready. I have actualy lost a couple of the sencerios and had to re-stratagize on them, which while it is horid to lose or retreat, it is cool that the diffuclty is there. While some parts of the game are tedius, like selling equip, and such, matching the AI here can prove challenging, and if you are not on top of things overwhelming. There is a nice aspect of race mixing while building your armies, as well.... Like I said you can not go wrong with this one.
