Secrets Of Atlantis Review
This is a classical adventure game with a good number of puzzles of various complexities, a strong storyline, much better than average graphic, excellent mood and very good to excellent voice acting. My only problem with the game is the first person setting. In order to avoid dizziness in some players, other games either offer a so called "slide mode" (see Scratches), an option to slow down the mouse sensitivity and with this to reduce the spinning effect on the player, or an option to play it in 3rd person - not too many games offer this most desirable option though -
Despite all the spinning I had to endure, I finished the game because it is just so good. I can see how the Soduku and Texas holding can be a turn off for some, but they fit in the storyline very well and I personally enjoyed both. The story follows the quest for some medals and related objects, in order to find the way to Atlantis. During the course, it brings together 3 special characters with ancient Atlantinean heritage and a "bad guy" for added interest. I do not think that this storyline is any worse than most recent, successful Hollywood adventure movies...; plus it is interactive!
The scenes are: the beautifully rendered Hindenburg, the Empire State Building, Macao, an Indian palace, a Mezopotamian village and an imaginary underground setting, all nicely staged in the 1920s and offering plenty to discover.
I am eagerly waiting for the next installment that is clearly implied with the ending that, BYTW, is satsifying on its own terms. But Dreamcatcher Interactive, please, think about those with motion sickness!
